Dr. Kwabena Duffuor II, son of the presidential aspirant of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and parliamentary aspirant for Sekyere Afram Plains, has discredited a campaign poster that features himself and former President John Dramani Mahama soliciting votes.
The poster, which is making rounds on social media, suggests that Dr. Duffuor II is endorsing Mahama’s bid for the NDC flagbearer position over his father’s. However, Dr. Duffuor II has clarified that he has not authorized or endorsed any such poster featuring him alongside any aspiring flagbearer. He further emphasized that any fake posters in circulation are without his approval or sanction and do not represent his position or views.
As the NDC approaches its Presidential primaries, Dr. Duffuor II called on all party members to remember that the decision of who to elect as flagbearer lies with the delegates. He expressed confidence in his father’s competence to lead the NDC but stated that it is not for him to make that decision. Dr. Duffuor II urged all party members vying for various positions to campaign with decorum and respect for one another. He emphasized the need to work together towards Victory 2024, and may God bless everyone involved.
For the most part, it is essential for all political parties to conduct their campaigns with transparency and fairness. The circulation of fake posters and news articles can sow confusion and division among party members, which is not conducive to a healthy democracy.
It is important for all party members, especially those vying for leadership positions, to conduct themselves with integrity and respect for others. As Ghanaians prepare for the 2024 elections, let us all strive to engage in healthy political discourse that fosters unity and progress for our country.
