Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, claims that democracy has regressed under the present administration.

He stated this in response to the government’s cancelation of the convention on January 7, 2023 by the New Force.

It saddens him that the government violated the rights of individuals who enjoy the freedom of association and speech on Constitution Day.

“Such misuse of state power by this failed Akufo-Addo/Bawumia gov’t doesn’t augur well for our democracy and must be condemned. Doesn’t the 1992 constitution guarantee freedom of speech and association? Ironically, today is CONSTITUTION Day. Our democracy has indeed retrogressed under this gov’t,” Clement Apaak made this known in a post shared via X.

The Ghanaian government stated in a letter that the New Force Program was canceled because the location was already booked for another event.

The letter stated that, despite the fact that the organizers had paid for and reserved the venue, the government’s program was critical and could not wait until after the introduction of the New Force.

The government indicated in its letter that a refund of GHC10,000 will be made to the organizers of the event.
