Ambrose Dery, the Interior Minister, has extended the curfew hours for Chereponi Township and its surrounds in the North East Region from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., beginning Wednesday, January 17, 2024, by an Executive Instrument.
In a statement issued the same day, he urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people to remain calm in the face of adversity, underlining the need of using nonviolent tactics to contribute to the area’s tranquility.
Simultaneously, a thorough restriction is in place, prohibiting persons in both villages and their immediate surroundings from carrying arms, ammunition, or other aggressive weapons. Any offenders found with such products will be arrested and prosecuted.
Last week, Mr. Dery similarly adjusted the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region, setting it from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am starting Friday, January 12, 2024.
Again, the community’s leaders and residents were urged to exercise restraint and promote peace through non-violent means amid challenges.
