Social media users in Ghana were left in shock after a video surfaced on Tuesday, April 4, showing a crocodile taking over a stream in one of the Nzema towns in the Western Region.

According to reports, the crocodile was believed to be a deity and had grown angry with the community members for breaking an undetermined taboo. As a result, the creature had taken over their source of water, guarding the banks of the stream with much aggression.

In the video, a woman, presumed to be a fetish priestess, is seen chanting incantations to invoke the crocodile.

She begged the cold-blooded animal to accept the pacification of the people, as residents watched in awe. After several minutes of fervent pleas, the crocodile is seen retreating slowly into the depths of the stream.

The ritualist then threw a live fowl towards the crocodile, which it grabbed mid-air as it submerged under the water. The crocodile then walked further back into the stream, leaving the residents and onlookers thunderously cheering.

After the successful pacification, a member of the traditional entourage stepped into the stream to fetch some water, symbolizing that it was now safe to do so. The incident left many Ghanaians in awe, as they watched the priestess successfully pacify the crocodile deity.

This incident highlights the importance of traditional beliefs and practices in Ghanaian culture, particularly in rural communities. It is a reminder that these beliefs are still deeply rooted in many parts of the country and continue to play a significant role in people’s daily lives.
