For selling their four-bedroom East Legon house to two persons on two separate occasions, a couple has been ordered into police prison by an Accra Circuit Court.

The Samuel Bright Acquah-presiding court remanded Vera Nartey, aka Akosua Kyerewaah, and Nosah Ekahtor.

The couple’s sentencing was postponed by the court to October 2, 2023 following a thorough trial.

The two entered a not guilty plea to charges of conspiring to conduct a crime and deceiving under false pretenses.

When the trial started in October 2022, they had already been granted bail in the amount of GH1.5 million cedis apiece.

They had to give three sureties as part of their requirements, and two of them had to be government workers making at least GH2,000 per month.

The court ruled that each surety had to be justified.

The prosecution’s argument was that the plaintiff, Godwin Kwarne Avadu Donkor, is an Adenta, Accra, businessman.

According to the prosecution, Vera and Ekahtor are both businesspeople who reside in East Legon.

According to the prosecution, Donkor approached the defendant in January 2022 about purchasing a home for his family.

Donkor was informed by Vera and Ekahtor that they had a four-story building with four bedrooms and would sell it to him for $290,000.

According to the prosecution, the defendants accompanied Donkor to East Legon during the same month and showed him the for-sale building.

Donkor inspected the property, showed interest, and negotiated with them. Donkor gave the accused people GH1,663,200 on January 28, 2022.

According to the prosecution, once Donkor completed the money, the defendant neglected to give him the property and instead resold it to a guy named Emmanuel.

Vera and Ekahtor were detained on October 3, 2022, and they later confessed to the crime.

The pair allegedly made a commitment to return Donkor’s money, but they didn’t follow through.

According to police investigations, the accused resold the residence to Emmanuel.
