The NGO Safety Protections Against Crime Consult’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Horlortu, has pleaded with local players to stand up for women and girls who are victims of domestic and intimate partner violence.

Additionally, he urged their cooperation with other State agencies in the pursuit of justice in situations involving rape, defilement, incest, and murder.

Mr. Horlortu, who made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Tamale, stated that it was the responsibility of local authorities to report instances of abuse to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit for investigation and prosecution of offenders.

Again, Mr. Horlortu urged that community members and traditional leaders must work together to stop or change the discriminatory customs that existed in their communities against women and girls.

As a way to improve the teaching of secure and healthy connections between women and girls in communities, Mr. Horlortu also urged community leaders to plan programmes on moral attitude and behavioural transformation for men and boys.
