Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s attempt to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the next elections has been described as “childish” by Ningo Prampram lawmaker Samuel Nartey George. George stated that it was absurd for an 80-year-old man to be engaged in such desperate politicking.
In an earlier interview, Dr. Duffuor compared his record to that of former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also vying for the NDC’s flagbearer position. He questioned who was in charge when certain figures were recorded, and said that if the figures were good, then the person in charge did a great job. If not, then they did not do a good job.
Sam George criticised Dr. Duffuor’s comments, asking whose record he would campaign on if he became the flagbearer of the NDC, as he had no track record of his own. George stated that everything Dr. Duffuor had achieved was at the direction of Prof. Mills and Mr. Mahama, and that he could not compare himself to former President Mahama.
George went on to highlight Mahama’s track record as president, including the construction of 123 Community Day Senior High Schools, with 45 completed and the rest at various stages of completion. He also mentioned the building of several universities, including the University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University of Energy and Natural Resources.
For the most part, George’s criticisms of Dr. Duffuor’s attempt to lead the NDC focused on his lack of a track record, and the fact that he could not compare himself to former President Mahama. While Dr. Duffuor questioned Mahama’s record, George highlighted the former president’s achievements in education and the building of universities. In a nutshell, the NDC flagbearer race is heating up, and it remains to be seen who will come out on top.
