Following a prohibition on goats by Nana Kosua Ameahene II, the Queen Mother of the Berekum Traditional Area, there is misunderstanding in the territory.
A two-week deadline has been imposed to residents who own goats to get the animals out of the community or face having them butchered.
However, on July 13, 2023, some Berekum people had their goats impounded by fictitious members of the palace taskforce who were enforcing the order before the queen mother’s deadline had passed.
According to locals, some people even go as far as breaking into goat enclosures to seize them. Certain Berekum Zongo elders decided to engage in a name-redemption campaign as a result of the incident, which was allegedly committed by certain Zongo community members in the name of the palace.
According to the elders, certain dishonest individuals determined to defame Berekum zongo were taking advantage of the circumstance to carry out such a wicked conduct.
Despite the fact that the ruling has not yet taken effect, a palace representative who spoke to Obra TV highlighted that locals had two weeks to remove their goats from the area as ordered by the queen mother.
“Nananom are claiming that all goats must be eliminated since the soil of Berekum does not like them. As of right now, no one has been given the go-ahead to arrest goats, and nobody is even allowed to arrest a goat that is being held in a corral. According to a council elder who spoke to Obra TV, “the individual could be getting ready to remove the goat from the town.
