An ordained Catholic priest from Kenya has made the odd decision to tie the knot.
Priests are expected to live chaste lives according to Catholic tradition, however Reverend Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru has joined the Catholic Charismatic church, a renegade group.
The wedding took place on Sunday in Kiambu country, which is located just north of Nairobi, under the direction of Bishop Patrick Mulau of the Kirinyaga Charismatic Church.
Father Waiguru remarked, “It is possible to serve God and have a family and have a lovely wife,” while standing next to Margaret Wanjira Githui, his bride.
“God did not make a mistake when he created a man and a woman and He said it is not good for somebody to be alone.”
Father Waiguru claimed that he felt compelled to get married and start a family after being assigned to preach throughout North and South America.
He made the decision to get married in a customary manner upon his return to Kenya. Two children were a blessing for the couple.
He reaffirmed his ordination as a charismatic priest and married in a formal ceremony. He said that he had now fulfilled his priesthood calling.
“I am very happy. To my wife, I promise to love you always,” he said.
According to NTV, hundreds of the couple’s loved ones attended the unique event.
