Byan Acheampong: IMF deal will collapse NDC’s campaign message

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has expressed his confidence that the NPP government will be able to secure a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between June and July this year. He believes that such a deal will help stabilize Ghana’s economy and alleviate the economic challenges that have become a talking point for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Acheampong made these comments while addressing supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Mpraeso in the Eastern Region on Saturday.

According to Acheampong, a revived economy will destroy the fortunes of the NDC in the 2024 general elections, as they may not have any campaign message for Ghanaians. The NDC, he said, will collapse without a campaign message before the next elections. The NPP government has already instituted measures to salvage the situation, with the reduction in fuel prices and the appreciation of the Ghana cedi against major foreign currencies.

Acheampong promised that the government would secure a deal from the IMF by June/July this year to help drive the economy out of its current economic challenges, which will subsequently collapse the NDC.

The NPP MP for Abetifi also indicated that the NPP has the skills and men to stop the NDC from misbehaving or instigating any trouble in the upcoming elections. The NPP will take the necessary steps to retain power in the 2024 elections. “Handing over power to the NDC as a result of the 2024 elections will not happen,” he said.

It is important to note that the IMF deal is not a new development, as the government has been in talks with the IMF since last year. The IMF has indicated its willingness to support Ghana’s economic reform program, which will help stabilize the economy and promote sustainable growth.
