With the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year ceremony fast approaching, there is a buzz in the air about who will take home the coveted prize. Gospel artiste Piesie Esther has been receiving a lot of support and campaigning, but entertainment pundit and artiste manager, Bulldog, predicts that a secular artiste will take the prize this year.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day show, Bulldog argued that secular artistes like Black Sherif and Stonebwoy deserve to win the award this year, despite the strong campaign for gospel musicians. He stated that the world is with Lucifer and that no amount of support from churches will make a difference.

For the most part, the VGMA Artiste of the Year award has been dominated by secular artistes, with only a few gospel artistes winning the prize over the years. Despite this, the gospel genre remains a significant part of Ghana’s music industry, and Piesie Esther’s fans believe she deserves the prize this year.

Aside from Piesie Esther, the other nominees for the Artiste of the Year award include Stonebwoy, King Promise, Camiddoh, Kidi, Sarkodie, Joe Mettle, and Black Sherif. It is a tough competition, with each artiste having an impressive body of work over the past year.

The VGMA is Ghana’s biggest music awards night, and the eight nominees will be hoping to take home the top award. For the most part, the winner of the Artiste of the Year award will not only be recognized as the best artiste in Ghana but also be able to leverage the win to grow their music career.

In conclusion, Bulldog’s prediction may come true, but with such a competitive field, anything can happen. The VGMA Artiste of the Year award remains one of the most significant awards in Ghana’s music industry, and the winner will undoubtedly be deserving of the prize.
