Bryan Acheampong, the representative for Abetifi, has come under fire from the minority in parliament for claiming that the ruling NPP will not cede power in the 2024 elections.

Bryan Acheampong has declared that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will never cede power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2025 following a Walk dubbed “Walk to Build A Better Ghana” with a large number of NPP supporters at Mpreaso-Kwahu in the Eastern Region on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, attended the walk. Mr. Bryan Acheampong added that the NPP would do whatever it took to keep power.

In case the NDC tries to employ intimidation and violence in the 2024 presidential and legislative elections, he warned that the NPP will demonstrate to them that they have the “guys” to do it.

According to a statement made by James Agaliga, ranking Member of the Committee on Defense and Interior in Parliament, the Abetifi member poses a threat to Ghana’s democracy.

Bryan Acheampong’s statement, in his opinion, is a confirmation of the NPP’s proclivity to use violence to sabotage elections.

“The NPP hoodlums’ interference in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon by-election is still vivid in our thoughts. We weren’t at all shocked to learn that Bryan Acheampong was mentioned in the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry’s conclusions and recommendations.

“Eight (8) Ghanaians were killed by NPP thugs during the conduct of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections in order to manipulate and undermine the will of the electorate as was observed in the Techiman North constituency. This must be forgotten,” Mr. Agaliga said.

In light of the foregoing, he stated, “Bryan Acheampong’s dishonourable conduct poses a direct and grave threat to Ghana’s democracy and for that reason he must be held accountable. We therefore implore the Inspector General of Police to quickly detain Bryan Acheampong and initiate legal action against him for participating in behaviour that could jeopardise the stability and security of our nation.
