Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a senior statesman and founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has denounced Agriculture Minister and Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong for his assertions that the party will use any means necessary to maintain its hold on power and that it has no intention of ceding power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

After a health walk at the weekend, Bryan Acheampong addressed party members at Mpraeso in the Eastern region and declared that the party would do everything it takes to stay in power.

Samuel Atta Akyea, a fellow Abuakwa South MP, referred to the statements as merely “political talk” in order to clarify that the NPP wanted to “Break the eight.”

However, Nyaho-Tamakloe, who also referred to the remarks as “senseless,” “tantrums,” and half a dozen other derogatory terms to express his disapproval, issued a statement in response and says he cannot sit aloof in the face of such a divisive political statement that could plunge this country into anarchy.

Additionally, he demands that Bryan Acheampong offer the country a sincere apology.

The remark made by Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe is given here in an altered form.

THE RESPONSIBLE CABINET MINISTER, BRYAN ACHEAMPONG

The outbursts Mr. Bryan Acheampong, a purported New Patriotic Party (NPP) member and former national security agent who was recently confirmed by the Ghanaian parliament as the Minister for Agriculture, had over the weekend in Kwahu are regrettable and in poor taste.

Being a senior citizen of Ghana and a founding member of the New Patriotic Party, I am writing because I cannot remain silent in the face of such divisive political statements made by some obstinate members of the political class. Without a doubt, Bryan Acheampong’s remarks have the potential to further devastate our country than what the Akufo-Addo administration has already done.

The recent remarks made by Mr. Bryan Acheampong during the NPP Unity Walk in Kwahu on April 8, 2023 are not only reckless but also aggressive and destructive; they are foolish and uncalled for. The comments made by Mr. Bryan Acheampong, a cabinet minister of the Republic of Ghana, that “the NPP government will not hand over power to the NDC” even if the opposition wins and that “whichever way we will employ to ensure NPP stays in power beyond 2024, we will employ” are not only directed at the NDC but also pose a serious threat to our democracy and the 1992 constitution.

I want to reassure Mr. Bryan Acheampong that some of us won’t be seated calmly while he attempts to activate the 4th Republic’s destructive button. And we are steadfast in our resolve.

This country has never had political or economic peace since Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, was overthrown in 1966. A number of coups d’état have occurred. After a brief period with the political elite, the military takes over. a circumstance that has hampered rather than aided our development. We eventually got a constitutional rule in 1992 because to the sacrifice and sweat of brave military and citizens alike after this had gone on since 1966.

It is well known that Mr. Bryan Acheampong owns estates from the Kwahu range to the Akuapem range. It’s about time the President and the NPP leadership brought Bryan Acheampong to sanity because his disobedience and aggressive tendencies have reached legendary heights. If you don’t do it, the party will get worse and eventually break down completely.

Some of us in the NPP won’t stand idly by while such reckless behaviour that is incompatible with the NPP and detrimental to the advancement of the country continues. Our nation urgently needs development, and Bryan Acheampong, a cabinet minister, should speak on that topic on political platforms like the one that was presented to him last Saturday.

As a last recommendation, I urge Mr. Bryan Acheampong to immediately retract and offer a sincere apology to the good people of Ghana for making such a damaging, illegal, misguided, needless, and stupid political statement. Hooliganism wastes time that should be used for reasoned debate on important problems. I’m grateful.

…Signed…
