Former president John Dramani Mahama’s adviser, Oyce Bawah Mogtari, responded to recent remarks made by Bryan Acheampong, the member of parliament for Abetifi and minister of agriculture.

On Saturday, April 8, the minister declared that his party would never cede control to the opposition National Democratic Congress after the 2024 General Elections while speaking at a New Patriotic Party [NPP] event in the Eastern Region.

In response to Acheampong, Bawah Mogtari compared the minister to former African dictators such Mobutu Sese Seko of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iddi Amin of Uganda, and Charles Taylor of Liberia.

“Wait a second. Where are all the tough-talking bad guys from Africa? Charles Taylor, Iddi Amin, Mobutu Sese Seko, etc.? The sheer magnitude of the people’s power demolished and overthrew each of them, and it will do the same for Bryan Acheampong and everyone who thinks similarly, she tweeted on April 8.

The MP’s remark has received a lot of response, particularly from NDC members who dared him and others to try to rig the 2018 elections.

The ruling New Patriotic Party would use all of its resources to win the general elections in 2024, according to Bryan Acheampong, who has said as much in the past.

His party would enter the election well equipped because, in his view, the NPP is not prepared to cede power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In the elections of 2024, he claimed, the NPP has the men to compete head-to-head with the opposition.

After a health walk through the main streets of Mpraeso on April 8, 2023, Bryan Acheampong addressed the party faithful and emphasised that “We will show NDC that we have the men if they try to do intimidate, harass us, or do anything dumb during the 2024 elections… We won’t cede control to NDC, thus that won’t happen. We will take every action necessary to keep NPP in power.
