Bronx Boxing Gym Trainer: Boxers Need Managers

Boxing is a difficult sport that requires not just technical skills, but also administrative, financial, moral and spiritual support. According to Coach Lokko, Head Trainer/Coach of the Bronx Boxing Gym, boxers cannot survive without managers, as the job of training and managing a boxer is too difficult for just one or two people.

In a recent interview, Lokko stressed the importance of having a support team that includes a manager, publicist, medical doctor, nutritionist, legal advisor and a support base to cheer the boxer on. He noted that boxing is a hard task and requires a lot of sacrifice, hitting and punching the bags and pads every morning, and even shadow boxing.

For the most part, boxers need managers to cushion them while they train to become champions or realize their boxing dreams. While it is up to the boxer to perform in the ring, having a manager can provide support and guidance outside the ring.

At the Bronx Boxing Gym, Lokko and his team train boxers not only in the craft of boxing but also in how to live outside the ring, how to talk to the media and how to behave in town and at home. The gym has produced champions like Daniel Gorsh, the National Super Bantamweight Champion, Jacob Dickson, the National Cruiserweight Champion, Sheriff Quaye, the WBO Africa Lightweight Champion, Felix Ajom, National and Pan African Super Featherweight Champion, and Jacob Tetteh Laryea, the new West African Super Welterweight Champion.

Lokko is very optimistic that his boxers will become bigger champions soon. He believes that John Laryea, the new African WBO champion, has the potential to become a world champion if he maintains his determination and seriousness.

In a nutshell, Lokko believes that beyond the sky is their target, and so they keep on training and fighting until they reach the moon. Training is a sacrifice, and no one can make it for you unless you do it yourself.
