In an unexpected turn, Spears extended a shout-out to her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, praising his new single and appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’ This move comes after years of reported tension between the two.

“I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song Selfish. It is soo good,” she wrote, “and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard ???

Britney Spears praised another song, “Ps Sanctified,” that Justin Timberlake debuted on Saturday Night Live. Meanwhile, her devoted fans have been streaming and purchasing her 2011 track “Selfish” to surpass Timberlake’s song on the charts.

Last Thursday, Spears’ song entered the Top 40 of the US iTunes chart, coinciding with Timberlake’s release of “Everything I Thought It Was.” By Friday afternoon, “Selfish” claimed the No. 1 spot, pushing Timberlake’s track to No. 3.

The tension between Spears and Timberlake has intensified over the years, especially since Timberlake’s 2002 song “Cry Me a River” criticized Spears for cheating on him. The animosity grew further when Spears revealed in her recent book that she had an abortion while dating Timberlake, citing his discontent with the pregnancy.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have intentionally stayed out of the public eye in recent months due to harassment from Britney Spears’ fanbase following the release of Spears’ memoir in October 2023. The couple sought refuge in Mexico with their two sons, Silas (8) and Phineas (3), to avoid the ongoing drama.

Timberlake temporarily disabled comments on his Instagram account after receiving hateful messages from Spears’ fans. Although he has re-enabled comments, Timberlake continues to face online vitriol.
