In a touching development, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has awarded Benjamin Darko, a brilliant secondary school graduate whose outstanding performance in the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) caught the attention of the online community, a full scholarship for his education.
Darko will be able to follow his dream of studying Chemical Engineering at the esteemed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) thanks to this scholarship.
The GNPC Foundation posted about the news on Facebook. In front of Master Darko and his family, Dr. Dominic Eduah, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, and Vice Chancellor of KNUST, revealed this exceptional scholarship package.
Dr. Eduah emphasized that the Foundation’s Education & Training branch is dedicated to offering assistance and raising Darko’s hopes. The GNPC Foundation has taken action to ensure that Master Darko is successfully admitted into the upcoming enrollment window at KNUST by working with educational partners.
Despite graduating from Presbyterian Senior Secondary School (PRESEC) in Legon, Ghana, with a stellar GPA of 5As and 3Bs, the tenacious 21-year-old former Science student has encountered financial challenges that have prevented him from pursuing a medical-science-related degree at the university level.
Since 2021, Darko has faithfully worked as a gasoline attendant at a GOIL station in Kumasi while engaging in a variety of menial occupations to support his goals. After his result slip went viral on social media, his remarkable story attracted attention on a national level.
Dr. Eduah acknowledged the GNPC Foundation’s comprehension of the difficulties experienced by many parents and children who want to further their education but are constrained by a lack of resources. Through scholarships and other educational intervention programs, he reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to assisting people in realizing their aspirations.
Vice Chancellor of KNUST Professor Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her joy at being able to assist Benjamin Darko with his academic endeavors. She congratulated Darko on his scholarship and gave him advice on how to maintain his good behavior while attending the institution.
Benjamin Darko expressed his sincere gratitude to the GNPC for their support in helping to shape his future, and he was overjoyed to be able to restart his schooling. He gave everyone his word that he would do his best to take advantage of this chance.
Benjamin Darko is going to be rewarded for his perseverance and commitment to his education as he begins his academic journey at KNUST thanks to this outstanding act of support from the GNPC Foundation, establishing a motivating example for aspirant students around the country.
