Black Sherif Wins Big at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards


The 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) took place on May 6th, 2023 at the Accra International Conference Centre. It was a night filled with glitz, glamour and top-notch performances from some of Ghana’s most talented musicians. The event recognized the contributions of various artists to the Ghanaian music industry over the past year.

The most coveted award of the night, Artist of the Year, was won by Black Sherif. The young artist rose to fame with his hit single “Second Sermon” and has since then become one of Ghana’s most sought-after musicians. Black Sherif beat out other top contenders such as Sarkodie, King Promise, Camidoh, Kidi, Piesie Esther, and Joe Mettle to win the prestigious award. Upon receiving the award, Black Sherif expressed his gratitude to God, his parents, and his fans for their support.


The rising star also won the Hip-Hop Song of the Year with his song “Kweku the Traveler”, and the Best Video of the Year with “Konongo Zongo”. He also took home the Most Popular Song of the Year award with “Kweku the Traveler”.

Piesie Esther won the Gospel Song of the Year with “Waye Me Yie” while Stonebwoy won the Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year and Best Afro Pop Song of the Year with “Therapy”.

King Promise won the Album / EP of the Year with his album “As Promised” while Sarkodie took home the Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of The Year award. Kofi Kinaata won the Highlife Artist of the Year award with Worlasi winning the Vodafone Green Awards.

For the most part, the awards were well-deserved and recognized the hard work of various artists in the Ghanaian music industry. The 24th VGMA was a night to remember, as it showcased the talent and creativity of Ghanaian musicians. The event also demonstrated the continued growth and development of the Ghanaian music industry.

  13. Gospel Song of the Year  – Waye Me Yie by Piesie Esther

  15. Best Rap Performance of the Year – Amerado
  16. Best Collaboration of the Year  – Country Side by Sarkodie Ft Black Sherif
