Born on July 15, 1946, William T. Walters is an American businessman, philanthropist, best-selling book in the New York Times, and one of the all-time great American sports bettors with a winning streak spanning more than 30 years.
After being found guilty of insider trading, Walters was given a five-year prison term, which was eventually reduced.
With the exception of sports betting, Walters gave up gambling in 1987 and went back to his commercial origins. His holding business has stakes in eight automobile dealerships as of 2016, one of which was under development, a golf course located on the Las Vegas Strip, a franchise for car rentals, and other commercial assets.
In Munfordville, Kentucky, a small rural hamlet, Walters was raised in poverty. When Walters was just 18 months old, his auto mechanic father passed away.
Shortly after Walters’ father passed away, his drunken mother abandoned her son and their two kids. His grandmother reared him in a house without indoor plumbing or running water.
