The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 Presidential election, according to claims that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. A.S.K. Bagbin, made.
According to an internet blog, the Speaker believes that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, and former President John Mahama would face off in the 2024 presidential election.
The website claims that the Speaker made this remark during a visit to the Yagbonwura as part of the festivities for Ghana’s 30 years of unbroken parliamentary democracy.
However, a statement made public by the Media Relations Division of the Parliamentary Service clarified that although the Speaker made mention of the two lawmakers at the occasion, it was not an exercise in prediction.
“In the context in which he was speaking, he said that what should be of urgent concern to the people of Northern Ghana is that they will be adequately represented at the top of Ghana’s political system, which should be a source of pride to them.”
“The Rt. Hon. Speaker highlighted that despite our political differences, we are one people with a single future. Therefore, regardless of our political differences, our shared objective should be to fight for the welfare of all Ghanaians, the statement continued.
