The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has returned GH283,000 in total that was originally allotted from the Assembly’s Common Fund for administrative needs.
Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso West Municipality, defended the use of GH751,000 from the Assembly’s Common Fund during a hearing of the Public Accounts Committee in Ho.
It was revealed that instead of spending GH751,000 for a rental property, they should have spent GH197,000.
“We are still renting for the Assembly block, and it has been refunded to the District Assembly Common Fund account as recommended,” she said.
Additionally, the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly made it clear that it had used its COVID-19 budget to support education in 15 local schools.
In response to the committee’s allegations that the Assembly had not used the COVID-19 fund, this clarification was provided.
“It has been utilized, in fact, payments have been made to the Ghana Health Service. It was used for sensitization in all the basic schools. We did 12 to 15 basic schools sensitizing them on COVID-19,” Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah stated.
