The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwame Baffoe, has urged party members, supporters, and sympathizers to avoid voter apathy ahead of the 2024 general election. He emphasized the need for unity among all party faithful to ensure a victory for the NPP, adding that breaking the eight-year governance cycle of the fourth republic is important to the NPP fraternity.
Addressing the Bono Regional Youth Conference and Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Orientation program organized by the Regional Youth Wing of the Party in Sunyani, Mr. Baffoe urged party members to eschew factors that tend to derail their chances of victory in 2024. He noted that many Party members were disgruntled about the behavior of some government appointees, which led to people having issues with appointees, saying if that was not addressed, it could lead to voter apathy and affect the NPP’s chances of winning the next elections.
For the most part, Mr. Baffoe highlighted the need for the NPP to consider itself as an opposition party “hungry” for power and fight as they did in 2016. He stressed the importance of avoiding any form of self-sabotage, urging party members not to vote against themselves.
In the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections, the NPP lost six of the seats in the parliamentary race out of the 12 constituencies in the region, but won in nine constituencies in the presidential election. Based on this outcome, Mr. Baffoe called on the youth wing and TESCON members to rally support for the Party’s victory in the 2024 general election, stating that breaking the eight is possible if the party remains focused and united.
In addition, Ms. Mimi Duah, the Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the Party, advised the Party’s executives at all levels to go to the grassroots and establish good relations with the people, teaching them things they need to know. She emphasized the need for constant engagement with the people to enhance the Party’s chances of winning the next general election.
In a nutshell, the NPP Bono Regional Chairman’s call for unity and focus among party members ahead of the 2024 general election is crucial for the party’s success. With the need for avoiding self-sabotage, establishing good relations with the people at the grassroots, and rallying support from the youth wing and TESCON members, the NPP can break the eight and secure a victory in the next election.
