At Akweley in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, some people who were allegedly involved in illegal activity set a carpentry shop on fire. The shop’s owner’s two motorcycles were also destroyed in the fire.
According to Citi News sources, the shop’s owner is a part of a watchdog organisation that has been pursuing criminal gangs who have been terrorising the neighborhood’s people. The proprietor of the carpentry shop may have been the target of these crooks, according to reports.
Prior to this occurrence, a different resident who belongs to the gang was shot in the leg.
Owner of the carpentry business Stephen Obour told the reporters that the crooks attacked him on purpose to stop him from pursuing them.
“I’m not certain if this was an electrical issue. There is nothing flammable in my store, and this light does no damage. I have no doubt that some evil people in the neighbourhood we frequently target plotted this crime. All of my tools, as well as two motorcycles, were destroyed in the fire. I pursued another person who I thought could be a criminal not long ago, and he went away,” Stephen Obour told Citi News.
Residents voiced worry about their pervasive fear of residing in the neighbourhood since they have no idea when they would be assaulted. They requested more patrols from the police in the area.
“I went to work one day, and when I got home, I saw that my shop’s whole roof had been broken into. Along with this man whose store has been destroyed by fire, the most recent victims also include a barber, an elderly man, and another person. The security situation in Akweley is getting out of hand, therefore we implore the police to take action, said Elizabeth Yamoah.
