While on vacation in Ghana, Atletico Madrid striker Memphis Depay recently paid a visit to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.
On July 13, 2023, Memphis made a polite visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and then posted about it on his own Instagram profile.
Memphis, a Dutch international who has played for Barcelona and Manchester United in the past, was shown in the photographs decked out in traditional garb.
He politely draped his colorful kente robe, which he was wearing as a sign of respect for the respected king, off his shoulder.
One of the photos showed Depay standing next to the Asantehene, who was positioned to the player’s right, while the other showed Depay seated and speaking with Otumfuo.
Expressing gratitude to the Asantehene for his valuable advice and motivation, Depay captioned the post, saying, “Thank you for your words of wisdom and motivation! #ashanti #King #ashantikingdom.”
