The Ashaiman Municipal Health Directorate has been recognized as the second-best performing health district in the Greater Accra Region, out of a total of 29 districts. According to Mrs. Patience Ami Mamattah, the Municipal Director of Health, the directorate achieved this milestone by initiating and sustaining various interventions and strategies aimed at improving health service access and delivery in the municipality.
Mrs. Mamattah revealed that one of the key strategies employed was the setting of clear targets for staff and ensuring that management provided the necessary support to facilitate performance. She also noted that frank discussions with staff were periodically held, coupled with the provision of necessary feedback on issues at stake. Additionally, the continuous flow of information among staff and intermittent data review and validation were also implemented to ensure that targets were met.
Mrs. Mamattah stressed the importance of leadership and teamwork in achieving their targets and stated that their staff had a strong sense of responsibility and took ownership of their work by seeking tailor-made creative solutions to address the everyday challenges faced while meeting their client’s needs and serving the communities they worked in.
While acknowledging that challenges were enormous, she called on the public and organizations to support the staff with basic medical equipment such as BP apparatuses to undertake home visits to help reduce hypertension among residents, which she stated was a major problem in the municipality.
Mrs. Mamattah expressed gratitude to all those who have supported the directorate thus far while calling on others to join in augmenting their committed efforts to provide quality healthcare in the municipality.
