Asante Kotoko Communications and Brands Manager, David Obeng Nyarko, has attributed the team’s poor performance this season to injuries sustained by key players. Nyarko revealed that almost every player at Kotoko has suffered an injury or two, which has impacted the team’s performance.

According to Nyarko, the quality of the pitches used in the Ghana Premier League is one of the main reasons for the high number of injuries. He explained that some of the pitches are very hard and need to be watered before games, but this is not always done, making them injury-prone. He cited a recent complaint by former Kotoko player, Sulley Muntari, about the state of pitches in the league.

Nyarko also highlighted the measures taken by the team to prevent injuries, saying that their medical team tapes players in every game, which costs almost GHC 5000 per game. Despite these measures, Kotoko players have continued to suffer injuries, which have affected the team’s chances of winning matches.

The team’s injury woes have been exacerbated by the absence of several key players, including Justice Blay, Rashid Nortey, Dickson Afoakwa, and Yussif Mubarik, who are all currently injured and unable to play. These players have made important contributions to the club this season, and their absence has been felt by the team.

Kotoko’s recent 3-0 defeat to Berekum Chelsea highlights their current struggles in the league. With eight games left in the season, Kotoko will need to put up a strong performance against league leaders Aduana Stars to get their campaign back on track.

In a nutshell, injuries have plagued Asante Kotoko this season, with almost every player suffering an injury or two. The poor quality of pitches in the Ghana Premier League is one of the main reasons for this.

Despite the measures taken to prevent injuries, the team has been unable to avoid them, and the absence of key players has impacted their performance. Kotoko will need to put up a strong performance against Aduana Stars to revive their hopes of winning the league.
