The Chief Imam will be honoured, and the Zongo villages will be brought closer together, according to him. The location is one of the 125 artificial turf fields the government has built to support and advance football in Ghana.

All participating players and coaches were instructed by Hon. Ussif to act professionally and play well because foreign scouts will be on hand to keep an eye on the top players.

He asked everyone to uphold the competition’s goals of discipline and cooperation.

The Ramadan Cup is for everyone living in a Zongo community, not just Muslims, according to the event’s chairman, Hon. Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, MP for Yendi, who donated 10,000ghc to the competition. He advised people to use the event to improve their homes.

The Black Meteors (Olympic football team), the coach of the Ghana U23 team, hinted that the tournament has over the years produced some very talented players and that he is looking forward to seeing more great rising stars who can be poached by the league clubs in his promise to donate the trophy for the winning team.

Afro Arab Group, National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Ashfoam, Multi Pak, Electroland Ltd., Zongo Development Fund, and the Ministry of Youth & Sports were among the organisations and people praised by the founder of the Ramadan Tournament, Tamimu Issah, for their support.

There will be 30 zongo communities from across the nation competing in the competition this year.

The preliminary draw, the centrepiece of the launch, pitted Mamobi against Nsawam, Accra New Town against Kumasi Zongo, Nima versus Oda, and Cowlane against Tema.

Koforidua Zongo will play Adabraka, Madina will take on Tunga, Shukura will take on Alajo, Sabon Zongo will take on Suhum, and Fadama will take on Kaneshie.

The matches between Ashaiman and Efie Akuapim, Kasoa and Ashale Botwe, Hohoe and Salaga, Tudu and Anyaa, Darkuman and Yendi, and Nungua and Abeka will all take place.

The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) General Secretary, Mr. Prosper Harrison Addo, made a commitment to furnish officials for the competition.

Both Ahmed Abdulai, one of the organisers of the Ramadan Football Competition, and Alhaji Latif from the National Chief Imam’s office were in attendance.
