Patrick Don-Chebe, the Commander of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Task Force, was shot by galamsey operators during normal patrols to catch unlicensed miners.
On Wednesday morning, the tragedy occurred at Ankaase, a village in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
The victim, who is fighting for his life at the 37 Military Hospital, was inspecting the mining village on his usual routine when he came upon the illegal miners excavating several holes and raised the alarm.
When the armed illegal miners at the concession site noticed him, he was shot in the abdomen.
Patrick reported bullet wounds in his left abdomen and was brought to Kyebi Government Hospital for treatment by his crew.
However, his health deteriorated and he was sent to Accra’s 37 Military Hospital on Wednesday evening.
After executing the horrible crime, the illegal miners allegedly departed the area, leaving their gear behind.
Meanwhile, Patrick Don-Chebe is being treated after the incident was reported to the Kyebi Police Command.
The police have subsequently begun their investigation.
