The AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, has shown its commitment to the development of Ghana by donating a set of ultra-modern office furniture to the Kumasi Office of the Ghana News Agency (GNA). The donation comes after an appeal was made by the staff of the Agency during a visit by some senior management members of the Mine to the GNA Kumasi office last year.
The donation includes a workstation, swivel chairs, a desk, and a cabinet. According to Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager Sustainability at AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, the gesture forms part of interventions to strengthen institutions such as the GNA to help them discharge their duties effectively and contribute to the socio-economic development of the people.
The mining giant recognizes the important role played by the media in the development of the country and is committed to building strong partnerships to facilitate development processes, especially within the scope that they are operating. The GNA is one of the key stakeholders within the media landscape, and being a national institution, it is right to build their capacity so that they can deliver on their mandates.
For the most part, the GNA being a state-owned institution faces challenges, especially in funding for its operations. The timely and important gesture from AngloGold Ashanti to provide this critical office equipment will enhance its operations in the Ashanti Region. The items delivered to the Agency will boost work outputs of the GNA, especially in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Kwabia Owusu-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency, applauded the management of the Mine for the timely gesture and pledged that the items would be put to good use. The donation will go a long way to improve the working conditions of the staff of the GNA Kumasi office.
In a nutshell, the partnership between the AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, and the Ghana News Agency demonstrates a commitment to the development of Ghana. It also highlights the importance of building strong partnerships to facilitate development processes in the country.
