Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kweku Ampratwum-Sarpong, has endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be the future leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana. In a radio interview with Okay FM, the MP for Mampong praised Dr. Bawumia for his dedication to the party and his demonstrated competence, which he believes will make him a strong candidate for the NPP’s presidential primary.

Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong highlighted that Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the future of Ghana would build on the achievements of the current government and bring positive impacts to the party, the nation, and the youth in the country. He also commended Dr. Bawumia’s support to the current government, citing digitisation as an example of his vision that has had a significant impact on Ghana.

According to the Deputy Minister, Dr. Bawumia enjoys the support of over 100 MPs in the NPP Caucus in Parliament, who demonstrated their overwhelming support during a meeting with him last week. He is confident that Dr. Bawumia’s upcoming victory will be “earth-shaking.”

The endorsement of Dr. Bawumia by Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong comes amid growing speculations about who will lead the NPP in the future. It is widely believed that the current President, Nana Akufo-Addo, will not seek re-election in 2024, paving the way for a new leader to take over the party’s mantle.

For the most part, the endorsement of Dr. Bawumia by a prominent member of the NPP is seen as a significant boost to his presidential ambitions. However, it remains to be seen whether he will officially declare his candidacy for the party’s leadership position and if he will receive the support of other influential members of the NPP.
