Alan Kyerematen, a former trade minister, was allegedly betrayed by President Nana Akufo-Addo, according to Dr. Jonathan Okyere, a political science instructor at Cape Coast University.
Despite prior signs that President Akufo-Addo might hand the reins of power to Mr. Kyerematen, Dr. Okyere claims that he has ignored such objectives.
Mr. Kyerematen, who had been a part of the system at one point but later left it, is now in a difficult situation as a result of this perceived disdain.
In an interview with Class FM after Mr. Kyerematen dropped out of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidacy, Dr. Okyere criticized President Akufo-Addo.
The pullout, according to Dr. Okyere, is a significant step that might present problems for the NPP in the future.
He stated that Mr. Kyerematen’s belief that the President had abandoned him, particularly after saying he would transfer power to him for the general elections in 2024, was one of Mr. Kyerematen’s strengths.
He emphasized that the President has always supported a candidate from the establishment in the NPP election.
In the meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has made it known that he has no preference for the candidates running for the presidency in 2024.
With a focus on unifying the party to take against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the approaching elections, he emphasized his commitment to guaranteeing the win for the NPP and the chosen flagbearer.
