Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta, has harshly attacked President Akufo-Addo’s ‘partisan’ remark made after visiting Akosombo Dam leakage victims in the Volta region.
According to reports, President Akufo-Addo would have decided not to sympathize with the victims since they do not vote for him.
But, as President for all Ghanaians, he is leading the effort regardless of whether they voted for him or not.
His statements were not well received by certain members of the public, with many criticizing them as untimely given the seriousness of the problem.
The legislator said President Akufo-Addo’s statement was “needless” on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday.
“We know that he doesn’t love us. We’ve been neglected for a long time. Don’t Voltarians pay taxes and levies? He should give us a break. Yesterday was the first time the President came here and he had the guts to make fun of the people. There was no statement to empathize with the people prior to that” he fumed.
Flooding caused by the leakage has prompted numerous villages in the Volta Region’s North, South, and Central Tongu districts to flee. They are in desperate need of relief supplies to make their lives more pleasant.
As a result, the government has formed a 13-member committee led by Chief of Staff Frema Akosua Osei Opare to coordinate solutions to the issue.
