The National Democratic Congress (NDCVolta )’s Regional Chairman, Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor, has advised all candidates in the party’s approaching parliamentary primaries to conduct peaceful campaigns free of verbal and physical abuse.

Following the successful screening of all candidates in the Volta region, he made this assertion in a statement released in Ho on Thursday.

I urge all candidates to launch and carry out their campaigns free of insults, rancour, and unnecessary acrimony. “It is worth noting that political competitions of this nature are sometimes characterised by the use of intemperate language and verbal or sometimes physical attacks on opponents, either by contestants or from their supporters,” he said.

Instead of engaging in character assassinations and smear campaigns, which “often do not augur well for the peace and unity of our great umbrella family,” he advised all aspirants to go to delegates with messages that would encourage a climate of peace and harmony and persuade delegates to support their bids.

The party’s established guidelines for internal electioneering campaigns, according to Mr. Agbavitor, should also be scrupulously adhered to “so that in the end we will all emerge triumphant as a party.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose government has run the economy of our beloved country into the ditch with its appalling performance and unsound economic policies and programmes since taking office about six and a half years ago, is another enemy that we should be reminded of and work to defeat in the 2024 general election, he added.

Mr. Agbavitor argued that strict adherence to the party’s set rules for internal electioneering campaigns was necessary “so that in the end we will all emerge successful as a party.”

He continued, “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is another enemy that we should be reminded of and work to defeat in the 2024 general election. Since taking office about six and a half years ago, the NPP government has run the economy of our beloved country into the ground with its appalling performance and unsound economic policies and programmes.
