Adom Benedicta makes history as first female to contest parliamentary election in Achease

Adom Biamah Benedicta, a banker, is set to make history as the first female to compete in the Achease constituency in the Eastern Region’s parliamentary primary.

Benedicta hopes to not only break barriers as the constituency’s first female parliamentary candidate, but also to become the constituency’s first female Member of Parliament.

Following the successful filing of her nomination form at the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Eastern Regional Office on Monday, December 25, 2023, Benedicta talked to the media about her resolve to alter the narrative of Achease constituency.

She emphasized the need of adolescent development and expanded work possibilities in order to reduce societal vices such as alcohol and drug usage.

Benedicta is up against the current Member of Parliament, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, who is running for re-election.

Benedicta, on the other hand, believes she may win the primaries and then the parliamentary election, therefore increasing the participation of women in Ghana’s political scene.

Meanwhile, the party’s Eastern Regional Executives have disbanded the election committee for the Achease seat owing to apparent breaches of the norms and regulations governing the primary.

The NPP’s Eastern Regional Secretary, Anthony Osei-Adjei, indicated that the dissolution was intended to restore peace to the constituency amid disagreements between the MP, chairman, and secretary.

Adjei reported that 89 contenders filled out forms to compete in the region’s primary, with Akuapem North and Abetifi seats remaining uncontested.

“With the number of people that have picked forms we have 89,it is only at close if nomination that we will know the total number that have filed”

As the nomination process comes to an end, he advised candidates and supporters to conduct polite campaigns, underlining that any divergence might result in a candidate’s withdrawal.

He stated that the party’s dedication to a democratic and peaceful electoral process is reflected in a polite and issue-focused campaign.

“at any point in time we can withdraw your candidature from the race so we will use your medium to advise them they should watch the kind of things that comes out of their mouths during the campaign”.
