The attack on a bullion truck that resulted in the death of a police officer at Ablekuma Fanmilk in Accra has resulted in the arrest of four people. The police are now undertaking “fresh investigations” into the case.
Thursday in the Kaneshie District Court, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apewah Archana, claimed that following the weeks-old arrests of two additional defendants, Hope Osazae and Blessing Ijoma, the Police needed to launch further investigations.
Rashid Abdul and Benjamin Ojogbe, who were detained days after the event, were already charged by the police.
It said that when the police finished their inquiries, they should send the duplicate docket to the Office of the Attorney General for guidance.
Therefore, the prosecution requested an extension of the four accused people’s detention.
The case has been postponed by the Nana Abena Asor Owusu Amenyo-presiding court until September 27, 2023.
Following the heist, the accused individuals and their accomplices are alleged to have fled with GH145,163.08.
The suspects were allegedly taken up at Circle Railways at around 1:30 in the morning when they were “enjoying themselves,” according to the police.
The defendants have been accused of planning a murder and killing Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah.
Their pleas have not yet been heard.
According to reports, the police officer was shot numerous times during a robbery attempt on the van’s passengers at a gas station in Ablekuma.
The accused thieves followed the vehicle when it stopped at a gas station to refuel, according to a statement from the Ghana Police Service.
According to the report, the police officer was shot at close range while performing security duties in a passenger seat in front of the car.
