Asante Kotoko’s interim coach, Abdul Gazale, has expressed disappointment in the team’s performance and singled out defender Sherif Mohammed for criticism following their 1-1 draw against Bibiani Gold Stars on matchday 30 of the Ghana Premier League.
Although Solomon Sarfo Taylor gave the Porcupine Warriors the lead, Abednego Tetteh scored a late equalizer for Bibiani Gold Stars, with Sherif Mohammed playing a significant role in the goal.
In a post-match interview with StarTimes, Gazale criticized Sherif’s decision-making, saying that he “needed to close in the gap but he kept on moving back until the opponent got the cross in the area and it caused a goal.” This mistake, according to Gazale, cost the team crucial points and may affect their league standings.
For the most part, Kotoko’s performance in the league has been below expectations, with the team only managing one win in their last six games. This has resulted in them falling eight points behind league leaders Aduana Stars.
Gazale’s comments come as a wake-up call for the team to improve their performance in their upcoming games if they are to have any chance of winning the league title. The coach must work on improving the team’s defense and decision-making skills to avoid any more disappointing results.
Asante Kotoko will take on relegated Kotoku Royals on Sunday in Dawu, and the team must ensure they secure a win to boost their morale ahead of the remaining fixtures of the season.
