In a shocking turn of events, the Ejura Traditional Council has reportedly sacrificed a white sheep to curse some residents of Kyenkyenkura, a farming community in the Ejura-Sekyedumasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The incident stems from a long-standing dispute over land ownership, with farmers claiming that over 1500 acres of agricultural land have already been taken away from them.

According to affected residents, they have been warned not to farm on the remaining land, and have even received calls from the Ejura Traditional Council ordering them not to do so. This has left hundreds of subsistence farmers in Kyekyenkura fearing for their livelihoods, leading to a demonstration in which traditional authorities were called out.

During the demonstration, the angry farmers allegedly assaulted the chief of Kyekyenkura, Nana Agyenim Boateng, for allegedly selling their lands. In response, the Ejura chief decided to clear his name by slaughtering a sheep and pouring libation to the gods, asking them to deal with those he accused of peddling falsehoods.

He also asked the gods to deal with five ringleaders who had failed to honour an invitation to the Ejura palace to settle the matter. While some see this as a sign of the chief’s innocence, others believe that the traditional council’s actions are an abuse of power and a violation of the farmers’ rights.

Regardless of one’s stance on the matter, it is clear that the land dispute in Kyekyenkura is far from over, and that the farmers’ livelihoods remain at risk. It is important that both parties come to a peaceful and equitable resolution to avoid any further escalation of tensions.
