A 23-year-old woman allegedly stormed into a police station in Imo state and shot and killed officer Cosmos Ugwu.
Ugwu was allegedly shot dead on Tuesday, December 26, by his claimed lover, Amanda Uchechi Ugo, a resident of Imo state’s Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area.
According to trustworthy sources, the event happened approximately 6:30 p.m. on Boxing Day at the Ezinihitte Area Command.
Officers on counter duty were claimed to have fled for shelter after hearing three gunshots from the dead officer’s chamber.
A source said on Thursday: “When police officers ran into the room later to see what was going on, they found Corporal Ugwu lying in a pool of his blood. The girl shot him three times in his chest and his left hand. He was rushed immediately to Evergreen Hospital in Ezinihitte, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.”
“It was like a movie,” the source added.
“Nobody knows what went wrong between the two, but how the girl was able to use a police rifle successfully is still a surprise to many. Maybe, Ugwu was the one who taught her.”
Our reporter learned that the dead had a heated argument with his girlfriend in the police station room, and that during the fight, the girl reached for the deceased’s firearm, pulled the trigger, and shot him three times.
He stated that the murdered officer’s remains had been deposited in the Obizi morgue while the investigation was ongoing.
According to reports, the suspect is presently in police custody, where she is being interrogated and may face prosecution.
When reached, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye verified the event, adding the police were doing all possible to find out what happened.
“Yes, the incident happened. We are doing everything to ensure we investigate the matter, to ascertain the fact and possibly arraign the suspect in court,” Okoye said.
