The Kaneshie District Court has granted GH₵50,000.00 bail with two sureties to two Metro Mass Transit Limited employees for allegedly stealing cables and parts from various buses.
Emmanuel Ageny and Augustine Adu denied stealing bus wiring and parts worth GH₵250,000.
However, the Court headed over by Nana Abena Aso Owusu-Omenyo requested that one of Adu’s sureties be supported with a landed property.
This came after the prosecution pleaded with the court to guarantee Adu returned to face justice, since he fled into hiding after learning of Ageny’s arrest, and it took the police a long time to locate him.
The judge ordered him to report to the police every other Monday until the case was resolved.
They will next appear on March 11, 2024.
When asking for bail, their attorney stated that his clients had pled not guilty to the offenses and had others standing as sureties. He stated that they could not interfere with investigations and had set locations of residence.
Police Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana informed the Court that the complainant, Mr Mark Ayamga, was a security supervisor at the Metro Transit Head Office in Kaneshie.
Ageny, he added, was a porter and Ablekumah resident, while Adu worked as the institution’s mechanical engineer.
Chief Inspector Achana stated that Ageny and Adu, the accused, were all employees of Metro Mass Transit’s Head Office in Kaneshie, and that on January 5, 2024, Metro Mass security received information that an unknown person/persons had cut some of the automotive wires fixed in the buses, stored them in two large sacks, and placed them in one of the unserviceable buses in the yard.
The prosecution stated that based on this information, the authorities entrusted the security personnel with ensuring adequate monitoring in order to apprehend the culprit/s.
Three days later, the complainant noticed Ageny carrying one of the sacks to the yard’s main entrance, and he was caught and given over to the police, along with the evidence, the court heard.
During the inquiry, Ageny informed the police that Adu asked him to bring one of the sacks from the bus to the yard’s main door.
This resulted in the arrest of Adu at his hiding near Tema Community 10.
