Comfort Aidoo, a 19-year-old apprentice, has been taken into custody by the Assin Fosu Divisional Police for reportedly plotting with her boyfriend to stage an abduction and seeking a ransom from her parents.
The mother claims that the suspect, in a state of anguish, contacted their parents’ neighbor at Breman Adumanu in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District to tell them that the kidnappers had imprisoned her in an unfinished structure at Adansi Praso.
She said that the purported abductor, who spoke a mix of Twi and English, informed them over the phone that the daughter had a blade around her neck and that a GH¢2,000.00 ransom was required to free her.
Alarmed by the news, Felicia Appoh and her husband began a wild hunt for cash to give the alleged kidnappers so they wouldn’t harm their daughter.
Their daughter called them fifteen minutes after they paid the money into the Momo account the kidnappers had provided them, informing them that she had been freed and dropped off at a place close to a woodland in Assin Juaso.
So, the family went to the location to get her, but upon closer inspection, discrepancies in her narrative surfaced, raising questions.
The mother said that the suspect had blindfolded her, transported her to a number of unidentified places, and forced her into a taxi heading for Kumasi from Assin Fosu.
She had earlier claimed that her ex-boyfriend had kidnapped her and demanded the money he had spent on her throughout their relationship.
The family did not believe the story and turned her over to the police so they could look into it.
In addition, Yaw Appoh, the father, stated that because there was no money available, the family had to use difficult methods to pay the ransom.
He pleaded with the police to look into his daughter’s location in order to help them locate the accomplices.
